The Bayside Leader – The Way of the Future

Written by Jordy Atkinson – Bayside Leader

Apartments will soon be up for grabs in Brighton’s first carbon neutral residence. Slate House, on the corner of Bleazby Ave and Male St, had 14 apartments designed with sustainability in mind. By ecological developers Lucent, they have natural raw materials throughout and double-glazed windows positioned to maximise passive heading and cooling. Gas is not connected in a bid to shift away from fossil fuel, with kitchens featuring induction cooktops instead. The development achieves a minimum NatHERS rating of 7.5 stars – a scheme measure a home’s energy efficiency based on design. Brighton’s average is 5.5. Managing director Panos Miltiadou said the popularity of Lucent’s sustainable living projects at Brunswick East and Collingwood had sparked the move to a “more luxury end of the market”. “We plan to deliver a collection of high-quality, premium homes with environmental integrity – we really believe this is what the upper-end of the market is looking for.” he said. Mr Miltiadou said Slate House would show that “luxury and sustainability are not mutually exclusive”. Apartments on sale in February, register at lucentgroup.com.au
